In 1993, ScanlanKemperBard was launched as a real estate merchant banking company. By definition a merchant bank is “a financial institution providing capital to companies in the form of shared ownership instead of loans.” For us, it was about providing a new avenue for accredited investors desiring to create and retain wealth through real estate. Over time, we have expanded our presence across the Western states and created substantial deal flow for our investors, with 91 separate companies buying, owning, enhancing and selling real estate. The capital invested comes from high-net-worth individuals, family offices, trusts, institutions, SKB and its principals. SKB and its current and past principals have accounted for over $50 million of the total. Our discerning approach has enabled us to originate over $4.18 billion in total portfolio activity, and raise and manage over $1.46 billion in total equity.
